Relocation more viable for growing pharmaceutical manufacturer Soho Industri Farmasi


PT Soho Industri Farmasi, a local Indonesian pharmaceutical manufacturer of solid, semi-solid and liquid over-the-counter (OTC) pharmaceuticals.


Wiley was engaged to design an extension to its production facility at Pulogadung in West Java. A feasibility study was needed to assess the suitability of the site for the extension, staging the works, and refurbishing and rationalising the processes in the existing facility and the new extension were core requirements of the project.


  • Assessing the restraints of the site in the Pulogadung industrial estate to determine whether it could accommodate the facility extension and efficient production processes
  • Complying with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and IPC requirements.



  • Development of a brief in conjunction with the client to establish the required process lines and the space requirements of each processing function
  • Assessment of each process line’s hygiene requirements to establish the building and services requirements, such as positive pressure, air filtration, air locks, and pass-through facilities
  • Assessment of management practices for materials handling and personnel access and flow to achieve hygiene standards
  • Preparation of indicative cost plans for the project.


  • Preparation of alternative layouts for the facility, focusing on efficient process flow, personnel access, safe work conditions, and efficient use of available land
  • Development of preliminary schedules of services and utilities to all functional spaces and schedules of finishes to all internal surfaces.


Wiley determined it would not be economically viable to proceed with the proposed facility extension on the existing site.

To fit the site, the facility would have to be multi-storey, which would lead to materials handling and process flow inefficiencies and the need for restricted personnel access around process equipment.

Wiley recommended that the client source an alternative site. The client pursued other alternatives and achieved an effective project solution.
